1 / 2Rockaway Beach Boardwalk Roller Hockey Rink
π Queens, NY
Oceanfront boardwalk complex at Rockaway Beach featuring a roller hockey rink, basketball and handball courts, skatepark, and direct beach access. Best for families with older kids who can handle strong Atlantic surf.
Hands down my favorite beach. It is absolutely beautiful... Great seashell collecting if that's your thing and miles and miles of beach. I took the ferry to the beach and the ride over was beautiful and back was beautiful.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children and teens who want an active beach day mixing skating, court sports, and ocean swimming. Beach 110 is the better pick for families over the surfer-oriented 91-93 section. The combination of skatepark, roller hockey, and beach access is genuinely rare on the East Coast.

βCame here on a Saturday with some friends and visited Beach 91-93 at 3:00pm. It's ideal for suffers. Our kids wanted to bodysurf and play at the skateboard park which is right there. Street side parking can be full, but we got lucky being that it was in the afternoon. Bathrooms were nearby. However, it was really packed and we didn't like it that much because there's hardly any sand and the tide was getting high, our beach blanket got soaked as waves were coming on shore strong. So we move to Beach 110, where we found an abundance of sand and easy waves. Ideal for families. However bathrooms was a hike.β

βThe place looks great it has been more than 10 years that I have been there. Everything has improved a lot. The only problem is that they need to update the bathrooms, the toilets look like they came from the set of the Saw movies.β

βOverall the beach is beautiful, it's a quiet place, there's parks near for the kids, few places to eat and handball/basketball courts, you can get here by ferry, train, car or bus. Warning!! Be very careful the waves here can be very dangerous, specially for kids. There's also so many Jelly fishes and different things in the water it's impossible to swim without having a million of them all around you, the waves are extremely strong and the beach can be very deep as soon as you get in so you must be careful!β

Overview
Rockaway Beach Boardwalk combines a roller hockey rink, basketball courts, handball walls, and a skatepark along a scenic Atlantic-facing boardwalk. Beach access is steps away, reachable by ferry, train, bus, or car. Beach 110 offers broader sand and gentler conditions than the surf-heavy 91-93 stretch. Seashell collecting, bodysurfing, and court sports fill a full day. Dining options are available nearby along the boardwalk.
