1 / 3Roy Wilkins Recreation Center Pool
đ Queens, NY
A community recreation center pool offering lap swimming and local facilities. Parents appreciate it as a valuable neighborhood resource, though note the aging infrastructure.
The main reason I give five stars on my first gym visit is because it's near my neighborhood. There is barely even a Starbucks in these backwood parts so I appreciate there being a gym......however tiny it do be!!! By gosh I can barely fit my gym bag in this work-hardened closet! If walk down the hallway to the locker room too fast you MIGHT just miss it!!! I can't imagine what it would be like on a crowded day Lord let me not be there on THAT day. However the small glass enclosed workout room makes for excellence air conditioning!!! And air-conditioned it WAS! I had to turn that thing OFF myself!!! As it was right in front of my face on the treadmill I was on I was afraid I might catch pneumonia! My body trying to work up a sweat while my head feels like it's been disembodied and stuffed into a meat freezer! I was surprised to see separate and curtained shower stalls for the girls who need their privacy LOL! The Manhattan 54th Street location offers no such prudence it's an open free for all! Ok besides all my colorful assessment I enjoyed my workout experience at RWRC! Though I will not visit as much as I would like due to I work in the city and the 54th Street location is just more accessible considering the NYC Recreation Center's hours! I would recommend locals to visit this gym especially for cardio workout as I just think the space is more geared towards that! And you have the park nearby to chill for a minute after your workout or maybe do an extra lap outdoors if you got to the gym near closing as I did! Enjoy!
đ Family Action Verdict
Best suited for local families seeking basic swimming facilities and fitness amenities without high expectations for modern infrastructure. The pool serves its purpose well for lap swimming and community activities, but families should be prepared for older facilities and potential cleanliness issues in locker rooms.

âGreat pool! Nice people, great facility for the community. Been going there for years. Sadly however the pool changing area and showers unfortunately smells and looks like the dirty mop they wipe the floors with. I know our neighborhood do not get nearly the funding we should, & I'm sure you guys are doing the best you can, but it need to be professionally cleaned and sanitized... Please!â

âGreat natural resource for the community that offers one of the few NYP&R lap pools and tennis courts. Just need that tennis bubble to stay warm during the winter. Would like to see more publicity and growth for their tennis program especially after losing Bill Briggsâ

âI only go there to swim. There are numerous other interesting things offered. Theater Shows, Photography Classes/Club, Aerobics, Weight training... just to name a few. Service is barely at acceptable level. Do not expect to be catered to or to see employees display initiative.â
