Excellent park with alot of wide open space. This used to be an airport so plenty of land to run around for humans and dogs. Basketball courts and kids playground in good shape. Right by the beach. Plenty of parking. Wonderful

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families who prioritise open space and coastal access over playground quality. The grass field and beach combo suits all ages for a full day out. Inspect the playground equipment before kids use it — some reviewers report worn or damaged pieces. The parking situation alone makes it worth considering over more crowded beach playgrounds.

â„šī¸ What to Know Before You Go

💡Check playground equipment for damage before children use it
⏰Bring a picnic — the grass field is huge and underused on weekdays
đŸŽŸī¸Combine the playground with beach and boardwalk time in one trip
🚗Parking is easy and free, unlike most NYC beach locations

“Miller Field Kids Playground offers a great location near the beach and boardwalk, surrounded by a massive grass field that families can take advantage of for picnics or sports activities. However, the playground itself leaves much to be desired in terms of maintenance and responsiveness to concerns. On the positive side, this playground boasts an unbeatable location. Not only is it near the beach and boardwalk, but it also provides a serene environment for kids to play in thanks to the vast grass field. This makes it a potentially excellent place for families to spend the day, enjoying both the playground and the natural beauty of the area. Unfortunately, the playground's overall experience is marred by the lack of maintenance and repair. Many play structures are broken or in disrepair, which can pose safety hazards for children and detract from the enjoyment of the space. As a federal property, it can be extremely difficult to find the appropriate channel to lodge complaints or even identify who is responsible for the upkeep. Additionally, the office handling complaints appears to be unresponsive or not taking concerns seriously. This lack of action only exacerbates the problems at the playground and further frustrates parents and caretakers who want to see improvements made for their children's safety and enjoyment. In conclusion, Miller Field Kids Playground has the potential to be a fantastic destination for families, thanks to its beautiful location and surrounding amenities. However, the lack of proper maintenance and accountability from the responsible parties significantly undermines its appeal. With proper attention and care, this playground could easily become a five-star attraction for families seeking outdoor fun.”

Overview

Miller Field occupies a former airport site, giving families an unusually large grass expanse for picnics, kite flying, and open-field sports alongside standard basketball courts and playground equipment. The beach and boardwalk are directly accessible. Parking is plentiful compared to most beachside locations. The space is federally managed; inspect equipment on arrival as maintenance response can be slow.
