1 / 2Rose Center for Earth and Space
đ Manhattan, NY
Part of the American Museum of Natural History, the Rose Center offers planetarium shows, Big Bang exhibits, hands-on children's activities including magnetic dinosaur bones and a projector microscope, and astronomy displays across five floors.
Great place for children and adults! There is a hands on room for children with a list of things they can find in the room and a dinosaur "bones" that are magnetic so kids can remove bones and put them back! A projector microscope is great fun. Staff is great too. Open on Mondays.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with curious children ages 5 and up who can engage with exhibit text and interactive displays. The hands-on children's room is a highlight for younger visitors. Plan two to three hours minimum â five floors of content creates fatigue if rushed. The planetarium show is worth booking separately before arrival.

âThe American Museum of Natural History has 5 floors of exhibition areas, which are suitable for all ages and can be visited for a whole day. It is a good place to cool down in the summer and learn about natural history. It is very suitable for children to visit.â

âI feel in love with this museum! Definitely worth it, and you need the whole day to enjoy and to see every part of the museum, because after 2 sections you get tired from reading and learning everything on it.â

âI have to come back - so much to do so little time. Make sure you have a good group when you go! Bringing the wrong person to your favorite place may ruin the experience!â

Overview
The Rose Center for Earth and Space anchors the northwest corner of the American Museum of Natural History with a distinctive glass cube housing the Hayden Sphere. Inside, exhibits trace the Big Bang, solar system formation, and geological time. A dedicated hands-on children's room features magnetic dinosaur bones, a projector microscope, and a scavenger hunt list. Planetarium shows run on a separate schedule. Five floors of content make a full-day visit realistic.
