Great place for children and adults! There is a hands on room for children with a list of things they can find in the room and a dinosaur "bones" that are magnetic so kids can remove bones and put them back! A projector microscope is great fun. Staff is great too. Open on Mondays.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with curious children ages 5 and up who can engage with exhibit text and interactive displays. The hands-on children's room is a highlight for younger visitors. Plan two to three hours minimum — five floors of content creates fatigue if rushed. The planetarium show is worth booking separately before arrival.

â„šī¸ What to Know Before You Go

💡Book planetarium show tickets separately — they sell out on busy days
⏰Start with the children's hands-on room to anchor younger kids before tackling the main exhibits
đŸŽŸī¸Open on Mondays when many other Manhattan attractions are closed
🚗Pace across two or three exhibit floors per visit to avoid information overload

“The American Museum of Natural History has 5 floors of exhibition areas, which are suitable for all ages and can be visited for a whole day. It is a good place to cool down in the summer and learn about natural history. It is very suitable for children to visit.”

“I feel in love with this museum! Definitely worth it, and you need the whole day to enjoy and to see every part of the museum, because after 2 sections you get tired from reading and learning everything on it.”

“I have to come back - so much to do so little time. Make sure you have a good group when you go! Bringing the wrong person to your favorite place may ruin the experience!”
