Museum of Broadway
π Manhattan, NY
Immersive three-floor museum next to the Lyceum Theatre in Times Square covering Broadway history through authentic costumes, props, production equipment, and themed exhibit rooms. Multilingual app included. Plan 90 minutes to three hours.
An absolutely fantastic experience! The costumes and props for the various shows on their timeline were each staged in cleverly designed rooms that were works of art on their own. You start out taking the stairs up through a space decorated as if it is the backstage entrance. Donβt skip the signs in this space as there is a lot of informationβand watch your head, as the space is deliberately tight. Another space that was an unexpected treat was the final floor which described all the lighting, stage design, costume construction, and other technical aspects of shows. Definitely worth a visit! Accessibility note: There are three floors worth of exhibits and lots of stairs, but they do also have an elevator if needed. My mother and I both use canes to walk and had no trouble as long as we went slowly, and the staff were very helpful, checking in with us at every staircase.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for theater-loving families with children old enough to read exhibit text and recognise show references β realistically 10 and up for genuine engagement. Younger fans of specific shows like Hamilton or Wicked will find those costumes thrilling regardless of age.

βExcellent museum that provides an in-depth overview of Broadway history. I was a visitor to New York City, so it was educational. Three floors of memorabilia, costumes, and production equipment. Plan to spend 2-3 hours if you read the dialogue with the exhibits. $34 senior citizen tickets available. Worth checking out if you enjoy Broadway productions, and want to learn more about them.β

βEnjoyable museum focusing mostly on musicals. Plenty of text and photos highlighting famous shows, but the costumes are the highlight. One third is dedicated to developing a show. Fans of theater will definitely enjoy this. There are numerous art installations which add color and vibrancy, but I wish there were more clips from the shows. Still, overall an interesting and well spent 1.5-2 hours.β

βThought this was okay overall. Three floor museum so a decent amount of content but felt as if the vast majority of things were text written on a wall with a significant focus on old Broadway shows. Other parts include some costumes, but probably amounts to β
